Meet CapitalG’s Newest Partners: Jill Chase and Chengpeng Mou
The success of any organization is a reflection of the quality of its team. This holds true with startups and equally true with venture firms. CapitalG’s successes to-date–16 IPOs, 9 M&A exits, and 55 incredible investment partnerships–are a testament to the talented professionals who have chosen to build their careers with us. Today it is our pleasure to share that two outstanding CapitalG investors have been promoted to partner.
Both are not only exceptional investors; they also embody CapitalG’s core values and guiding beliefs, such as a relentless focus on founder success and a healthy disregard for the impossible. Please meet CapitalG’s newest investment partners: Jill Chase and Chengpeng (CP) Mou.
Jill Chase
AI may have become all the rage in VC this year, but investor Jill Chase has been immersing herself in the sector for years. In accordance with CapitalG’s deep, thesis-driven approach to investing, Jill has spent hundreds of hours kicking the tires on AI technologies and forging meaningful relationships with AI founders and senior AI leaders across Alphabet and Google. A founder who has been working with Jill said that “Jill's understanding of the AI space is so strong that I was able to skip half of our usual pitch in the first meeting. This has felt like the picture-perfect founder/VC relationship to me: supportive, productive, and fun!” We’re excited to share that she’ll be announcing her first investment as a partner within the next few weeks.
Jill has been with CapitalG since 2020 and in that time has played a leadership role in the firm’s investments in executive women’s network Chief and financial data leader MX. She has also been a guest lecturer at her business school alma mater, the Stanford University Graduate School of Business, since 2019.
Prior to joining CapitalG, Jill worked in senior startup operating roles, both as the CEO of a private equity-backed business and as the founder of a Y Combinator-backed startup. Jill graduated magna cum laude with a dual degree in economics and psychology from Williams College where she was captain of the women’s basketball team. She is a natural leader whose energy, intellectual curiosity and engaging personality make her a magnet for founders and industry leaders alike.
Jill lives in the Bay Area with her husband where they spend weekends doing as many outdoor activities as possible, such as pickleball, tennis, hiking and running.
Chengpeng Mou
Chengpeng (or CP as we affectionately call him) joined CapitalG in 2017. He immediately made a positive impact, spearheading CapitalG’s investments in Asia. Notably, he led CapitalG’s investments into Cloudlight, a Hong Kong-based Silicon Photonics market leader, and Full Truck Alliance, which under CapitalG’s ownership period grew to become the world's largest digital freight platform and was valued at $24B when it IPO’d on the NYSE in 2021. More recently, CP has focused on crypto and the metaverse, playing a leadership role in CapitalG’s investments in Fireblocks and Niantic.
CP grew up in Chengdu, China and moved to the US to attend Washington and Lee University, where he graduated summa cum laude, Phi Beta Kappa with a degree in mathematics and was a leader in the Williams Investment Society, a student-run organization that helped manage part of the school’s endowment. After college CP worked in investment banking and private equity before earning his MBA and graduating as an Arjay Miller Scholar at the Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was also Co-President of the Investment Club.
As a child in China during the ‘90s, CP witnessed firsthand how the internet transformed the lives of a billion people. “To the 10-year-old me, Google, WeChat, Alibaba, Tencent, and Weibo weren’t just tech companies; they represented a new way of life,” he said. “My visceral excitement around the power of technology is what makes me tap dance to work everyday.” CP especially enjoys working with entrepreneurs who possess strong product visions and global-scale ambitions.
An avid reader, CP fills his time outside of work with books, travels, chess, ping pong and his family, including his 5-month-old newborn son.

At its heart, venture is a people-driven business. With gifted investors like CP and Jill joining the ranks of our leadership team, we feel confident that CapitalG’s next decade will shine as brightly as its first.
